Boom! Studios Comics ‘Irredeemable’ And ‘Incorruptible’ Get Picked Up By Netflix

‘Irredeemable’ is a Boom! Studios comic book written by Mark Waid and illustrated mostly by Peter Krause and Diego Barreto. The story presented a Superman-like hero called The Plutonian who turns against humanity, instituting a reign of terror that other heroes seem helpless to stop as they try to stop him before he destroys the Earth.

Netflix has announced that they were developing a film adaption that would combine ‘Irredeemable’ with its spin-off series ‘Incorruptible,’ about a villain who becomes a hero after the Plutonian turns evil. It will be directed by Jeymes Samuel (‘The Harder They Fall) with Kemp Powers serving as writer and co-executive producer.

The show will be produced by Shawn Carter (Jay-Z), James Lassiter, Jeymes Samuel, Stephen Christy, and Ross Richie, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The streaming service said in a press release,

“Created by comic book legend Mark Waid (“Kingdom Come”) and illustrated by Peter Krause, Irredeemable is one of the most impactful series of its time, running for 37 issues and selling over 1.5 million copies. A deconstructionist remix of the genre, the series dramatizes how the world’s greatest hero — The Plutonian — snapped under the pressure of his responsibilities and charted a dark path to become the world’s greatest supervillain. Irredeemable’s sister series, Incorruptible, flipped the coin and followed supervillain Max Damage as he responded to the Plutonian’s evil by gradually transforming himself into a superhero.”

This will be the second attempt at a film adaptation of the comic book. In 2016, 20th Century Fox was planning a movie with Adam McKay (‘The Big Short’) serving as director with Tommy Wirkola (‘Kurt Josef Wagle and the Legend of the Fjord Witch’) handling the script.

‘Irredeemable’ ran for thirty-seven issues from April 2009 – May 2012. ‘Incorruptible’ ran for thirty issues between December 2009 – May 2012. It was also written by Mark Waid with artwork from Horacio Domingues, Marcio Takara, and Damian Couceiro.
