Funimation Announces Dub Cast For ‘Akebi’s Sailor Uniform’ Anime

‘Akebi’s Sailor Uniform’ is a slice of life manga written and illustrated by the mangaka Hiro. It was published by ‘Tonari no Young Jump’ magazine under their “Young Jump Comics” imprint. The series was recently picked up by the Japanese animation studio CloverWorks for an anime adaption. Funimation announced that they have acquired the license to produce an English dub.
“We know it’s only January, but it’s already time to go back to school with the Akebi’s Sailor Uniform English dub,” Funimation said on their website. “Cartwheeling her way into the cast for the first episode is Megan Shipman (Sing a Bit of Harmony) as the spirited Komichi Akebi, joined by Tia Ballard (Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut) as her sister Kao, Erica Schroeder (Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies moved to a starter town?) as her mother Yuwa, and Greg Dulcie (Golden Kamuy) as Taira.”
They added, “As Komichi begins her junior high journey, she’ll meet Pam Dougherty (One Piece) as the school’s principal and Kristen McGuire (SSSS.DYNAZENON) as her teacher Ms. Tamura, and make her first friend with Suzie Yeung (Pretty Boy Detective Club) as Erika!”

‘Akebi’s Sailor Uniform’ is directed by Miyuki Kuroki while Rino Yamazaki is writing the anime. The character designs were done by Megumi Kouno. The opening theme song “Hajimari no Setsuna” (The First Moment) is performed by the main Japanese cast members, which includes Manatsu Murakami as the protagonist Komichi Akebi.
MyAnimeList describes the synopsis as follows:
“Akebi Komichi lives out in the countryside with her family. She’s won entrance to the prestigious Roubai Academy middle school for girls and now she wants only two things—to wear the school’s sailor uniform and to make a hundred friends!”
Alexis Tipton will serve as ADR Director with Jason Lord working as the Assistant ADR Director.
