Grab Yer Grog! A New Monkey Island Game Be On The Way!

Guybrush and company are making a comeback! The classic LucasArts series Monkey Island is getting a new installment, thankfully, with the involvement of the man who started it all. Although LucasArts may be long gone, the franchise is still in good hands.
Devlover Digital, in conjunction with Lucasfilm Games and Ron Gilbert’s Terrible Toybox, will be bringing us Return to Monkey Island this year! The news came from the series creator himself, Ron Gilbert, on Twitter.

In case the Tweet does not load, here’s the text and video:
“A little something we’ve been working on for the past 2 years in complete secrecy.”

Announcing Return to Monkey Island, the long-awaited follow-up to the legendary Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge by Ron Gilbert’s Terrible Toybox in collaboration with Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games, coming 2022.

The game’s official website doesn’t have a whole log going on right now, aside from showing off the new game’s art style and a view of the island at night. In the trailer, we can see someone who may be Guybrush Threepwood abord the ship moving back and forth. The trailer also announces that Dominic Armato will be reprising his role as the voice of the unlikely hero of the series.
The description in the YouTube trailer states this is a follow-up to the first two Monkey Island games. So, where does this put The Curse of Monkey Island, Escape from Monkey Island, and Tales of Monkey Island? Maybe I’m reading too much into the short amount of text?
For the most part, Monkey Island was a series of point-and-click adventure games from LucasArts. The original installment came out in 1990 and saw an eventual re-release with a voice cast, similar to what happened with the Leisure Suit Larry games but with less boobage.
