Now we’re moving forward! Arcade1Up is taking its cabinets further into the world of polygons with the release of NAMCO’s Ridge Racer! This release will also feature four additional racing titles: Ridge Racer 2, Rave Racer, Ace Driver, and Ace Driver: Victory Lap.
Pre-orders for the cabinet will kick off on November 22nd. Just in time for the holidays! We can’t state for sure if the cabinet ships before Christmas, though.
Let’s get you up to speed: originally released in 1993, Ridge Racer™ instantly kicked the racing genre into higher gear, with its revered graphics, gameplay and music. Fans and critics loved it, and now – close to three decades later – Arcade1Up is thrilled to bring it to you, as you remembered it.
Bringing you authentic (and yes, nostalgic!) arcade experiences in a home form factor, Arcade1Up game machines are must-haves for your family game room, fan cave, or a welcome distraction in the office. They play great, look great, and are instant conversation pieces.
Killer Instinct 1 & 2 will also come with multiple games, but not all from the same series. Instead, Arcade1Up is shoving in a few Rare classics: Battletoads (arcade) and Battletoads (8-bit and 16-bit home versions). I was hoping we’d get a standalone Battletoads cabinet, but that’ll do.
The KI cabinet will also feature wifi for online fightin’!
Killer Instinct™. Fans loved it, critics loved it. For many retrogamer enthusiasts it’s a definitive title of the mid-’90s, with the gameplay, soundtrack, and 3D-rendered graphics all revered. Relive that video game era with this stop-you-in-your-tracks arcade cabinet, that also includes Killer Instinct 2™, Battletoads™ (yes, the arcade version!), Battletoads™ 8-bit, and the 16-bit version as a bonus game.
You wanted a killer addition to your home arcade collection, and once again Arcade1Up has heard your battle cries. Killer Instinct™ is here!
The Ridge Racer cabinet looks to be the same as the OutRun! one released earlier this year. Maybe this means we’ll also get some other car-themed arcade games like APB or Crazy Taxi?
I’ve not personally played the new racing cabinets, so I cannot comment on the quality of the build. I’d certainly like to try one out, though.
What are your thoughts on these two new releases? Let us know in the comments.
