The man who inspired the Simpson’s Bublmbee Man (Pedro Chespirito) is finally being honored with his own action figure. The Red Grasshopper or El Chapulín Colorado, as he is better known in Mexico, was a staple of the Televisa broadcasting company in that country during the 1970s.
The Red Grasshopper figure features a perfect likeness of Roberto “Chespirito” Gómez Bolaños. He comes complete with his little wings, antennae, and signature yellow sneakers. The humorous hero stands at just over 12″ tall and appears to have already sold out over at Iron Studios. If he comes back in stock, the asking price is $199.99.
El Chapulín Colorado would show up on Public Access Television in my town for years. It wasn’t always clear if these were legal airings of the Grasshopper’s comedic escapades, but we weren’t asking any questions. Public Access was also where many of us were introduced to the glory of wet t-shirt contests during midnight channel browsing in our teenage years.
“More agile than a turtle, stronger than a mouse, smarter than a donkey, he is…Chapulín” …Thus, now Iron Studios proudly bring their new articulated figure “Chapolin Colorado Live Legend 1/6”. Produced in a limited edition, the second figure from the line Live Legend 1/6 presented by Iron Studios has multiple articulations, four pairs of hands, the accessories Squeaky Mallet and The Paralyzing Horn, costume made in fabric, and a stand with the character’s name on the base. Produced based on the original references, replicating with impressive faithfulness Bolaños face features and the meticulous details of his uniform. But “Easy, easy…Let’s not create panic!”, he’s already available.
