LEGO reveals first X-Files Ideas set with Mulder, Scully minifigures
LEGO revealed the X-Files Ideas set on July 21: 1,478 pieces, eight minifigures, $199.99, out August 4, with a two-layer build of Mulder’s office and a UFO forest.
LEGO revealed its first-ever X-Files set on July 21. It’s 1,478 pieces, $199.99, and it goes on sale August 4.
The build stacks two scenes. Fox Mulder’s basement FBI office sits up top, and a forest clearing with a hovering UFO sits underneath.
It’s a LEGO Ideas set, the line where fans submit builds and vote them toward production.
What’s in the LEGO X-Files set
Mulder’s office is where the detail lives. The “I Want to Believe” poster is in there, along with the “The Truth Is Out There” tile, a case dossier, a nod to his sunflower seed habit, and the pencils stuck in his office ceiling.
Eight minifigures come in the box: Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, the Cigarette Smoking Man (listed as Carl Busch), the Flukeman, and a grey alien.
Order online between August 1 and 10 and you also get a free Scully’s Lab gift set, an exclusive lab-coat Scully in her FBI academy lab.
Release date and price
LEGO Insiders get early access on August 1. General sale is August 4, on LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores.
The set number is 21369. At $199.99 for nearly 1,500 pieces, it’s aimed at the adult-collector shelf, not the kids’ aisle.
Gillian Anderson is back as Scully to sell it
LEGO brought Gillian Anderson back as Scully for the reveal. She stars in a short promo film where she hears a knock at a hotel door, gloves up, and starts examining a mysterious black box like a crime scene. The box is full of LEGO.
The connection runs deeper than a paycheck ad. The set comes from Australian designer Brent Waller, who pitched it over a decade ago and sent Anderson and David Duchovny custom minifigure mock-ups back then.
Anderson told Forbes the minifigure ranks near the top of her career honors, right alongside her Simpsons episode. She said she saw the finished set and reacted “like a little kid,” getting distracted mid-interview by the pencils and the sunflower seeds.
The set ships August 4. The truth is out there. Some assembly required.
