Minecraft's native Switch 2 version is out in beta before its October launch
A native Minecraft version for Nintendo Switch 2 is coming October 27, and a closed beta is already live for selected players. It finally brings the enhanced Vibrant Visuals lighting other platforms have had, plus an upgraded Super Mario Mash-Up.
Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2 is nearly here, and some players can already get their hands on it.
Mojang has confirmed the native Switch 2 version launches October 27, and ahead of that, a closed beta is now available to selected players. Eligible users get a notification on the game’s title screen letting them download the beta build from the eShop.
It’s the enhanced version Switch owners have watched other platforms enjoy for a while, finally coming to Nintendo’s new hardware natively rather than as a scaled-back port.
The upgrade people care about most is a visual one.
What the Switch 2 version adds
The headline feature is Vibrant Visuals, and on Switch 2 it should finally look the way it does elsewhere.
Released across other platforms in 2025, Vibrant Visuals overhauls Minecraft‘s lighting, directional light, volumetric fog, moving shadows as the sun crosses the sky, sunlight reflecting off water, light playing across the bottom of lakes. It transforms a famously blocky, flat-lit game into something genuinely atmospheric.
The Switch 2’s more capable hardware is what makes running it possible, which is why the original Switch never got the full treatment.
There’s a Nintendo-exclusive bonus, too: the beloved Super Mario Mash-Up pack, which skins the whole game in Mario textures, music, and locations, is getting updated with enhanced Vibrant Visuals graphics to match.
The catch, and the context
It’s a beta, so temper expectations, and not everyone’s in yet.
Access is limited to selected players for now, and early beta feedback already includes the usual requests, better frame rates on large worlds, the expected rough edges of a pre-release build. That’s what a closed beta is for. The full, stable version arrives October 27 for everyone.
For Switch 2 owners, it’s a small but real win: Minecraft, the best-selling game of all time, running natively and finally looking its best on Nintendo hardware, instead of the compromised version Switch players had been making do with.
