Pokémon Legends: Z-A went water-only, and fans think it's teasing Gen 10
Z-A’s new ranked season restricts battles to Water-types starting August 6. After last season’s Flying-only rules, fans are reading the pattern as a nod to 2027’s Pokémon Winds and Waves. Nintendo hasn’t said that.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A‘s newest ranked season only lets you use Water-type Pokémon, and fans are convinced it’s a wink at the next generation.
Season 15 starts August 6, right after Season 14, which restricted battles to Flying-types. Flying, then Water. Fans immediately connected the dots: Winds, then Waves.
That’s the theory. Here’s what’s actually confirmed and what isn’t.
What’s confirmed: Pokémon Winds and Waves is real
This part isn’t a rumor. Pokémon Winds and Waves are the Generation 10 games, and Nintendo revealed them officially back in February 2026 during Pokémon Day.
That reveal trailer showed the new region, the three starters, the protagonists, and some returning Pokémon. It also confirmed a 2027 release, not 2026 as some fans had hoped during the franchise’s 30th anniversary.
So the games exist, the names are official, and they’re a year-plus out. Everything up to here is solid.
What’s not confirmed: that Season 15 is a deliberate teaser
The connection between the ranked season and the new games is the part fans are supplying themselves.
Season 14 was Flying-only. Season 15 is Water-only. Winds and Waves. It’s a clean pattern, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet even ran Water-type events alongside the Z-A season change, which makes the timing look intentional.
But Nintendo and Game Freak haven’t said the ranked rotation is a teaser. It’s being “widely interpreted” as one, which is a different thing from being told it is one. Ranked seasons rotate type restrictions regularly, and reading the next generation into a battle rule is exactly the kind of connection fans love to make and companies love to let them make without confirming.
It might be a wink. It might be a coincidence with good timing. Both are live, and nobody official has settled it.
A word about all the other Gen 10 “news”
Here’s where it gets murky, and where a careful fan should slow down.
There’s a flood of Winds and Waves information circulating that is not official. Much of it traces to a large data breach from October 2025, the so-called Teraleak, plus various insider claims: a reported 300 new Pokémon, an underwater map with specific ocean sections, returning shiny-hunting mechanics, individual creature designs.
None of that is confirmed. Some of it reportedly comes from an early build and could be outdated even if it was ever real. Leaked claims about an unreleased game aren’t news, they’re rumors with a watermark, and this piece isn’t going to launder them into fact by repeating them.
What’s real: the games exist, they’re called Winds and Waves, they’re Water-and-Wind-themed, and they land in 2027. What’s a fan theory: that a ranked season is teasing them. What’s unverified leak material: basically everything else you’ll see.
Season 15 runs its water-only format for the next few weeks. Read the tea leaves however you like. Just know which cup is official and which one fans are holding.
