Skibidi Toilet returns after a year, without the creator who made it
Skibidi Toilet drops Episode 80 on August 14, its first new episode in nine months and the first ever made without creator DaFuqBoom. He sold the channel, says he feels “trapped,” and is contractually barred from speaking. Fans are furious.
The most improbable phenomenon on YouTube is coming back on Friday. The person who invented it won’t be part of it.
Skibidi Toilet, the Source Filmmaker series about a war between toilets and camera-headed humanoids, releases Episode 80 on August 14, its first new numbered installment in about nine months. It also marks the first Skibidi Toilet episode made without Alexey Gerasimov, better known as DaFuqBoom, the creator who built the series and animated it at a rapid clip before selling the channel.
That absence is the whole story for a lot of fans, and it’s not a happy one.
How the creator ended up on the outside
Gerasimov didn’t just step back. By his account, he got pushed out of his own creation.
In 2024, he partnered with Invisible Narratives, a company founded by former Paramount chairman Adam Goodman and Transformers director Michael Bay, to turn Skibidi Toilet into a full franchise with films and TV.
He sold them the channel. Invisible Narratives said in late 2025 that he remained heavily involved as an executive producer. But Rolling Stone reported on August 7 that Gerasimov and the company are “not currently collaborating” on new content, even though their agreement technically remains in place.
Gerasimov has described feeling “scammed, lied to, paranoid” and “trapped,” and said he wasn’t being paid out and was isolated from the project. He also remains contractually unable to speak freely about the situation, which is its own point of anger for fans.
The backlash
Episode 80 was supposed to be a comeback. Instead it reignited a boycott.
The return has pulled the #BringBoomBack and #LetBoomSpeak movements back to the surface, with the announcement’s comments flooded by fans refusing to watch.
“Without Boom it’s not Skibidi Toilet,” runs the common sentiment, along with variations on “a series will never be alive without the author.” According to accounts from creators on a call with the company,
Episode 80’s story wasn’t written by Gerasimov, an outline based on ideas he’d shared was developed by someone else and then run past him.
For a series whose entire identity was one person’s specific, strange vision, “based on his ideas, made by other people” is exactly the thing fans don’t want.
A very old YouTube story
Strip away the toilets and this is a pattern the platform has run many times.
A creator builds something huge and personal, a company buys it, and the thing slowly stops feeling like theirs. It happened with Smosh, with CollegeHumor, with countless smaller creators who signed with Machinima in YouTube’s early days and watched their work absorbed into a machine that didn’t share their vision. Skibidi Toilet is the newest, and one of the biggest, entries in that long list.
Whether Episode 80 lands is almost a separate question from whether it should have come out this way. The series still has an enormous, devoted audience, much of it Gen Alpha, and nine months is a long time to sit dormant. But it returns under a cloud its own fans put there, on behalf of the creator who isn’t allowed to talk about why he’s gone.
The toilets are back Friday. The person who dreamed them up is watching from the outside, quietly, because he doesn’t have a choice.
