YouTube banned the official Baldur's Gate 3 stream for "sexualized behaviors"
YouTube and TikTok cut off Larian’s official Baldur’s Gate 3 stream on August 5 over a sex scene in the studio’s own game. It happened on the game’s third anniversary. The devs found it hilarious.
YouTube shut down the official Baldur’s Gate 3 livestream because of a sex scene in the game that made Baldur’s Gate 3.
On August 5, Larian Studios was streaming its ongoing Dark Urge playthrough, hosted by senior communications director Aoife Wilson, when the run hit a steamy encounter and the platform pulled the plug. The takedown message cited a violation for “Body Exposure and Sexualized Behaviors.” TikTok cut the same stream shortly after.
The kicker: it happened on Baldur’s Gate 3’s third anniversary.
What actually got the stream banned
The offending scene is one every player can trigger in the base game.
Wilson’s character reached the House of Hope and accepted the advances of Haarlep, an incubus who takes on various forms, which plays out an explicit encounter. Larian tried to cover the action with a large golden D20 graphic slapped over the screen like a black bar, but it couldn’t keep up with everything happening behind it, and the filters flagged it anyway.
There was one funny wrinkle. Wilson noticed her own character’s nudity was censored while Haarlep’s wasn’t, which came down to the nudity settings on that particular run, not a bug or a mod. So the stream got banned for a demon whose nipples the game itself chose not to cover.
The devs thought it was hilarious
Larian did not treat this as a crisis.
Publishing director Michael Douse posted on X: “Baldur’s Gate 3 is now cancelled.” He followed up joking that getting banned on your birthday is a cool and edgy thing to do, clocking the anniversary timing.
Wilson, mid-stream, welcomed new viewers by noting they’d just been banned on several platforms at once, and later summed it up: “At least we had a nice time.”
The bans weren’t permanent. Both channels are back up. Only that specific stream got axed, with no VOD left on YouTube, so anyone following along had to finish on Twitch.
Larian has been here before
This is a rerun, and Larian knows it.
Before the game even launched, the studio got banned on TikTok during a showcase over the notorious scene where the druid Halsin transforms into a bear. Three years and a full release later, with an adults-only rating for exactly this kind of content, platforms still won’t allow a preview of material the game sells openly.
That’s the actual absurdity under the joke. Baldur’s Gate 3 is rated for mature content, sold in stores, and beloved partly for its grown-up romance scenes.
The people who made it can’t show one on YouTube without getting cut off, on the game’s own birthday, by filters that can’t tell a celebrated RPG from a violation.
Cancelled at three years old. It should be so lucky.
