Zack Snyder posted an Instagram shot of himself at Warner Bros. captioned “hanging out with amazing people,” and Snyderverse fans read it as a signal he’s returning to DC. The credible reporting says otherwise. Here’s the gap.
Zack Snyder posted a picture of himself standing on the Warner Bros. lot, water tower behind him, captioned “Hanging out with a bunch of amazing people today down at the WB.” Snyderverse fans reacted like he’d announced a new Justice League.
The photo, posted to Instagram, is the latest in a steady drip of Warner Bros. and DCEU-flavored content Snyder has been posting, and to a certain corner of DC fandom, it reads as a signal: the Snyderverse is coming back, and Snyder is coming with it.
The theory, laid out
Here’s what a chunk of DC fandom currently believes, stitched together from months of speculation.
The theory goes like this: Warner Bros. Discovery is being bought (the Paramount-Skydance deal, backed in part by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund), current DC Studios boss James Gunn is on thin ice after Supergirl bombed, and once the Ellison family takes control, the Saudis will push out Gunn and bring Snyder back to relaunch the Snyderverse. Snyder’s constant DCEU posting is read as him signaling his return.
It’s a tidy narrative. It connects the ownership change, Gunn’s rough year, and Snyder’s social-media activity into one story where the Snyderverse rises again.
The honest state of it: an ownership change is genuinely coming, Gunn’s future genuinely isn’t guaranteed beyond 2027, and Snyder is genuinely posting a lot of DC content lately.
However, the “Saudis reinstate Snyder, Gunn gets fired” is still just a fan theory built on speculation at this point.
Still, the timing is… weird.
What Snyder is probably actually doing
Snyder has a Netflix deal and other projects, and he’s reportedly attached to a UFC-themed film with Saudi ties, which is likely part of why his name keeps landing near “Saudi” in these stories.
Posting nostalgic DCEU images and hanging around Hollywood lots is something Snyder has done for years; he’s an active social-media presence who knows exactly how much his fanbase loves this content.
A photo at the WB lot could mean a hundred things, a meeting, a friend, a visit, and “returning to run DC” is the least-supported of them.
None of this means it’s impossible. Ownership changes do shake up studios, and if the Ellisons want a new DC direction, anything could happen after 2027.
But there’s a difference between “this could conceivably happen someday” and “this photo definitely means it’s happening.”
Snyder simply posted a picture at the WB water tower. The rest is the internet doing what it does.
Time will tell.
